There is something that screams to me! It tastes so bitter. Why is it that people with disabilities get so much hate? I have seen so much BS. Be it with my friends or myself. It has to stop!
Imagine that you see a post to a person with a disability that says, “You are better off dead.” Or “You will never be loved.” This happened to a friend who has Cerebral Palsy. I was so upset!! You have to be a sick and twisted human being to write that on anyone’s post, let alone a person with Cerebral Palsy!
The moment that you decide to pick on a person, you show weakness. You are despicable when you pick on someone with a disability!
There is a lot in my own life that has really hurt me. Things I have barely talked about! A person in my family would dig at me constantly. The last time I felt that sting, I heard this: “We have a pretty good family, but…” Everyone looked at this person and asked what was meant by that statement. “Chris has not grown up.” This was a huge blow! I was furious. So I am the reason my family is not perfect?!
One night, another family member was drunk and proceeded to put me in a choke hold and hit my trachea. I twisted away from the grasp and got free. And the coward made sure no one was around to see the attack. It was shocking! This was someone that I had trusted my whole life!! I also learned that this same person talked about causing a hunting or motorcycle accident that would take my life. Holy CRAP!! I have never confronted this person. Instead of providing closure, it would probably just hurt me more!
When you start to look at someone as a thing, problems develop. People should never be dehumanized. Everyone has feelings. I would rather consider a person’s character before anything else. People make mistakes, but some mistakes create trauma!! I walked away from being assaulted, thinking nothing serious happened to me. I was wrong!! I did not feel safe for a long time!
Please watch what you say to people with disabilities. And watch what you do! People with disabilities are a lot more fragile than others! You can greatly hurt them. They may not be able to fight back! That’s why assault on a person with a disability is exceptionally horrible.
If you are a disabled person in distress, please get help!! Move far away from the abuse! Talk to people. Get help from a counsellor! Please, get yourself safe!!
