As a sophomore at West High, Anna F. Lee spends her time balancing school courses with blasting her bass clarinet while backwards marching, playing piano pieces at the hospital for patients, recycling and gardening for Environmental Club, and participating in a wide variety of volunteer services for West High Interact. Outside of school and extracurriculars, she enjoys learning about the world through historical lenses, practicing Chinese and French, reblogging aesthetic photos on Tumblr, and singing along to musicals such as Hamilton, Tick, Tick…Boom! and Waitress. When she has time, she also loves to visit her family in Taiwan, watch movies with her friends, bake delicious cookies and other various other pastries, stargaze, and take advantage of the beaches near her home like a true Californian.
Of course, she enjoys writing, which stems from her love for reading. Anna’s See Beyond magazine short stories are inspired by various works that she has encountered since kindergarten, when she was first encouraged to become an avid reader by Ms. Lee (no relation). Her interest in literature was further expanded when one of her awesome middle school English teachers, Mr. Sanders, introduced her to J. R. R. Tolkien and other authors. Today, her favorite authors are those who write fantasy novels with female heroines and diverse casts, who include Tamora Pierce, Marissa Meyer, E. Jade Lomax, and Sarah J. Maas.
Anna is currently considering a career in the medical or engineering field so that she can help others. However, she believes that regardless of her professional future, writing will always have a large impact on her life.
